CLAUDIU VIDULESCU
Head Coach

As the Head coach of both the U.S. Youth and Adult National Climbing teams since 2007, Claudiu is at the forefront of rock climbing training, development, and program management. He has been a mentor to both youth and professional climbers including one of the world’s best female climbers, Sasha Digulian. His years of climbing and coaching experience have made the Stone Summit Climbing Team competitive on the local, national, and global level.

Claudiu began climbing 23 years ago in Romania. Early in his career, he received several awards from the Romanian Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing, and became the head organizer for national level competitions in Romania and Belgium. After moving to the U.S. in 2001, he immediately began setting new standards for coaching, competitions, and route setting. He became a head route setter for USA Climbing Competitions and one of the first certified ABS route setters.

Since its creation in 2010, Claudiu has led the Stone Summit Climbing Team to regional ABS and SCS titles every season and an SCS Division Championship in 2011. He has also led several team members to individual national championships in bouldering, sport climbing, and speed climbing. The nation’s best youth climbers from across the country attend his annual training camps looking for instruction as they travel to national and world championships.

His passion for working with kids, love for climbing, and desire for the Stone Summit team to become the most competitive, well trained group of youth climbers in the world keep him motivated and a leader in the sport.
